Tipbit #38 - RU IMPROVING?
How many of you RFPBA members have been successful lately in improving your game or has your pickleball game plateaued?
Have you added any new strokes? Have you worked on developing different serves to keep your opponents guessing? Have you added spin to a shot, like a topspin or underspin? Are you refining your volley technique to control the direction and speed of the ball? Have you worked on mastering the third shot drop? How about angles, like on your dinks? How about redirection, like off a lob or overhead? Have you watched pro PPA tournaments, instructional YouTube videos or do you religiously read Lueck’s tipbits? Are you willing to accept peer suggestions or criticism concerning your game?
Have you taken any other approaches to improve your game? Have you tried some different strategies, like stacking or poaching? Have you tried playing more frequently, to become more consistent? Have you tried working on your mental game, like focusing more? Have you tried not targeting the weaker opponent, but directing your shots at the stronger opponent? Have you been drilling off our new hitting wall or coming early with a friend to drill on your specific liabilities? Do you study your opponents' playing style, strengths, and weaknesses and then adapt your game play to exploit their vulnerabilities?
If you can answer “yes” to many or any of the questions above, you are clearly on the right path. By elevating your level of play from your current plateau you’ll enjoy the thrill of a more competitive and rewarding pickleball experience.
